A two-day event titled "Ethnology of Armenia's Independence. Collapse, Re-Establishment, Practices of Change" was held at the Faculty of History, which aimed to summarize and present the results of research conducted by professors and students within the YSU internal grant, and to organize a public discussion about it.
Discussing the educational process problems, as well as the issues of activating students' involvement in scientific and educational life, historians and specialists in the field committed to the idea of implementing the above-mentioned research project, aimed at including topics related to the ethnology of Armenia's independence in the research.
The event, organized by the initiative of the Chair of Archeology and Ethnography, started with a minute of silence. The attendees paid tribute to the memory of Babken Ararktsyan, founder-member of "Pan-Armenian National Movement", member of "Karabakh" Committee, President of RA Supreme Committee (1991-1995) and National Assembly (1995-1998), Candidate of Physical-Mathematical Sciences, Associate Professor and long-time distinguished lecturer at YSU.
The topics included in the research works brought into the discussion were related to the independence of Armenia, the historical realities related to it and the accompanying practices.
One of the main goals of the projects was to ensure the involvement of students in research work. During the scientific research, students of different years worked with the authors of the articles, performing various assignments, mastering the skills of conducting research work, composing scientific materials, studying facts, checking, and comparing.
It is noteworthy that the presented 18 scientific articles will be published in a separate collection, which will be useful for students, as well as specialists and colleagues studying the history, culture, ethnography of the Republic of Armenia.
Mkhitar Gabrielyan, Dean of YSU Faculty of History, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor and ethnographer, referring to the importance of the project, emphasized that their expectation was not only to write academic articles, but to include these articles in the educational process and curriculum.
Harutyun Marutyan, Chief Researcher of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of the RA National Academy of Sciences, emphasizing the need for such research works and recording the changes in historical processes in the scientific field, noted that the purpose of such research is not only to inform about cases and events, but also to bring the topic into the field of scientific research.
It should be noted that lecturers from YSU Faculty of History, chairmen, students and invited specialists were present at the event.
