Chair of Mathematical Modeling in Economics

The Chair of Mathematical Modeling in Economics (formerly the Chair of Economic Cybernetics) was founded in 1965. Ph.D., Associate Professor V. Karabekov, Dr., Professor Yu. Movsisyan, and Dr., Professor V. Toroyan used to lead the Chair.

From 2003 to 2023 Dr., Professor Aram Arakelyan headed the Chair.

Since November 1, 2023, Ph.D., Associate Professor Alvard Kharatyan has been heading the Chair.

The Chair of Mathematical Modeling in Economics implements two Master's degree programs: "Modeling in Financial and Economic Systems" and "Data Science in Business".

The "Modeling in Financial and Economic Systems" program is implemented jointly with the Central Bank of Armenia.

The Master's degree program "Data Science in Business" is implemented in cooperation with San Jose State University (USA), "The Enterprise Incubator" Foundation, the Center for Innovation Solutions and Technologies, and with the support of "PMI Science". The entire curriculum of the program is aligned with the Master's program in Data Analytics at San Jose State University. According to the agreement reached, up to five students can pass the two-stage selection, and continue their education in the "Data Analysis" Master's program of the YSU in the second year of study, by transferring the credits they received at YSU to SJSU, and after successful completion, receive a double diploma of a data scientist.

Graduates of the Chair are high-quality economist-analysts who can work in all areas of the economy. They played an important role in developing and solving problems of the development and management of the economy of both Soviet and newly independent Armenia.

Among the main directions of the research activity of the Chair are the study of migration flows, environmental economics, organization economics, and problems of balanced territorial development in RA.
