The Faculty of Chemistry of YSU is the only one in the Republic of Armenia where professional chemists are trained. It is also an internationally recognized scientific center.
The Faculty of Chemistry was founded in 1933, but before that, since 1921, chemistry was taught at the university by the Department of Chemistry.
The Faculty has a three-level education system: undergraduate, master's and postgraduate. Postgraduate education is organized in all major areas of chemistry.
In order to organize the educational process correctly and more effectively, the faculty regularly updates and improves educational programs, as well as organizes training courses for teaching professionals, seminars, discussions and other suchlike initiatives.
Together with the main lecturers, leading specialists from various institutions, including research institutes, and food production enterprises of the republic.
Chemistry school programs and standards, various scientific and educational projects, manuals and textbooks are discussed and peer reviewed in the Faculty of Chemistry.
The faculty closely cooperates with leading scientific centers of different countries, including: Northwest (USA), Arizona (USA), California (USA), Rostock (Germany), Münster (Germany), Saarland (Germany), Karlsruhe (Germany), Regensburg (Germany), Bochum (Germany), London (England), Bologna (Italy), Paris-Sud (France), Montpellier (France), Silesian (Poland) universities, Marie Curie-Skłodowska University (Poland), Moscow State University (Russia), Russian Academy of Elemental and Organic Compounds (Russia), Organic Chemistry (Russia), Chemical Physics (Russia), Structural Macrokinetics (Russia), Human Brain (Russia), Agrarian of France, Solution Chemistry of Russian Academy of Sciences named after G.A. Krestov (Russia) institutes, Dony Rostov Southern Federal University (Russia) and Birkbeck College (England).
There are scientific research laboratories in the faculty, where students are also involved in the projects.
In the Faculty of Chemistry, the daily life of students becomes more interesting due to the dynamic activities of student organizations.
The best students and post-graduate students have the opportunity to write and defend their research (thesis, master's thesis, dissertation) at German universities within the framework of the programs "BACKIS", "Erasmus+" and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
Undergraduate students have the opportunity to participate in the courses of the pedagogic educational block (on a paid basis) and receive the qualification of a pedagogue.
Expanded cooperation with RA and foreign organizations and educational institutions promotes the process of training high-quality specialists in accordance with international standards, which is one of the best guarantees of finding a job. Graduates of the faculty have the opportunity to work in various fields of education, science and industry, in professional organizations of food production administration (ministries, customs department, legal and standardization institutions, experimental laboratories, etc.).
