On March 30-April 6, the students of YSU Faculty of Law took part in the prestigious moot court contest “Jean-Pictet” specialized in international humanitarian law and showed impressive results.
“Jean-Pictet” competition in the international humanitarian law is one of the most prestigious moot courts organized for more than 30 years running, however YSU has participated in it for the first time.
The moot court was held in Obernai (France). The team of YSU involved the 3rd year students of bachelor program Igor Mirzakhanyan, Leili Tadevosyan and the 1st year student of Master program Tatevik Soghoyan.
48 teams of the universities of different countries took part in the competition. YSU team competed with the teams of Kenia, Mexico, Great Britain, India, Belarus, Pakistan, Ecuador, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia as well as with the team comprised of judges.
Though the team of YSU hadn’t won in the moot court, the individual report on the team showed that they achieved good results.
Judge Dalila Sion who teaches International Criminal and Humanitarian Law at Buenos Aires University in her report mentioned that YSU team outstood with staid playing, a good knowledge of international humanitarian and human norms, was highly respectful to competitors. Mrs Sion noted that YSU team’s performance was impressive in the stage of international criminal law and found its place in the three leading teams in total account.
Coach Steven Brendt attached to YSU team who graduated from Harvard University noted in his report that the Armenian team was one of the most remembered and creative teams.
It should be noted that in 2018, the YSU team with the same staff won in the moot court organized in the international humanitarian law by the Armenian Office of the International Red Cross Committee and got the opportunity to take part in “Jean-Pictet” competition.
