Peter McMillan will give a lecture at YSU
On November 30, at 10:00 in the Yerevan State University, in Balyan's Hall of the Faculty of International Relations, Peter McMillan's lecture will be held: Manyoshu - Japanese classical literature and its importance for world literature.
The lecture will be held in English.
The lecture is held within the framework of the educational program of the Japan International Cooperation Agency - JICA.
Peter McMillan is a translator and poet, the founder and director of Tsukinofune Co., and the host of NHK World's "The Magical Japanese Language" program. He has worked at various times at Tokyo, Kyorini and Tokyo Women's Christian Universities. He has received awards for translation for activities in Japan and the USA.
Peter McMillan's translations include: Hyakunin Ishu, a translation of a classical Japanese collection (2008), Ise Monogatari (2016), One Poem of a Hundred Poets (2017). His most recent book is A Journey Through the Poetry of Matsuo Basho (2022). Recent Macmillan publications include Reading Japanese Classics in English and Manyoshu in English. Also, publications under the title "Forest of Stars" are serially published in the Japanese newspaper "Asahi".
In 2019, Peter McMillan created for the first time in the world an English-language version of the traditional Japanese paper card game based on the classic Japanese poetry collection Hyakunin Ishu.
Peter McMillan holds an MA in Philosophy and a PhD in English Literature. He also works in traditional Japanese painting under the pseudonym "Seisai".
