Chair of Semiconductor Physics and Microelectronics
The Chair of Semiconductor and Dielectric Physics (currently Semiconductor Physics and Microelectronics) was founded in 1965. The first head of the Chair was G.M. Avagyants, a correspondent member of the Academy of Sciences of the ASSR. Later, Dr., Professor Z. Kasamanyan, and Ph.D, Associate Professor E. Melikyan headed the Chair. Since 1977 Dr., Professor, and academician of RA NAS V. M. Harutyunyan has been leading the Chair.
The Center for Semiconductor Devices and Nanotechnologies operates adjacent to the Chair.
The Mission of the Chair and Center is:
To instill and spread the following values in the society through research, educational programs, work, and teaching ethics:
a) Ergonomic sensors (sensors and daily well-being),
b)"Green" science (energy from renewable sources, innovative agriculture, food quality control, self-sufficient-safe development, and environmental monitoring, increasing public awareness on this issue),
c) Lifelong learning (ensuring the harmonization of knowledge and skills in a rapidly changing society for representatives of the young, mature, and old generations).
Contribute to the rapprochement and harmonization of cultures through scientific cooperation and mutual enrichment of knowledge.
The main research directions are:
Sensory,
Solar energy conversion,
Fluctuations and noise phenomena,
Semiconductor-liquid crystal surface phenomena,
Quantum phenomena in A3B5 semiconductors.
The Chair implements Undergraduate programs "Semiconductor Physics and Microelectronics", and "Radiophysics and Electronics", as well as Master’s degree programs "Semiconductor Physics and Microelectronics", and "Radiophysics and Electronics".
