Chair of Theoretical Physics named after Academician Gurgen Sahakyan

The Chair of Theoretical Physics of YSU Institute of Physics was founded in 1951 by an honored figure of RA science, an academician of RA NAS Yerevan State University, Dr., and Professor Gurgen Serob Sahakyan. Currently, the Chair is named after Gurgen Sahakyan. The Chair of Theoretical Physics is one of the founders of the "Physics of Superdense Stars" scientific direction in the former USSR, with the right to coordinate research in that direction.

Chair professors conduct general and professional theoretical physics courses at the YSU Institute of Physics.

The professors of the Chair are also involved in the activities of the Scientific Research Laboratory of Theoretical Physics of YSU Physics Research Institute. A number of scientific programs funded by the Committee of Higher Education and Science of the RA Ministry of ESCS are implemented in the Chair, which include young scientists, Post-graduate students, and Master's degree students. The Chair has scientific cooperation with Armenian and foreign educational and research centers. Since 2008, the Chair has been organizing the international conference on "Physics of Super Dense Stars and Relativistic Gravity".

The main directions of scientific research carried out in the Chair of Theoretical Physics are:

• Relativistic theories of gravitation and their astrophysical and cosmological applications,

• Physics of superdense stars,

• Physics of radiation processes,

• Phenomena of quantum field theory with the presence of gravitational fields and their applications in cosmology,

• Integrable systems of quantum and classical mechanics, integrable spin systems,

• Two-dimensional field and string theories,

• Studies of the formation processes of polycrystalline films,

• High-energy electromagnetic processes in crystalline media with external stimuli.

The Chair of Theoretical Physics named after Academician Gurgen Sahakyan implements the "Theoretical Physics "Master's degree program. Graduates of the educational program carried out by the Chair are hired by leading local and foreign scientific centers.
