Chair of Radiophysics and Electronics
The Chair of Radiophysics and Electronics was established in 1938 based on the electroradio laboratory under the name of the Chair of Physics of Electricity and Oscillations. Professor Harutyun Anzhur (Chebotaryan) was the founding head of the Chair. Later, it was renamed the Chair of Radiophysics and Electronics.
Academicians of the National Academy of Sciences of RA such as R. Martirosyan, K. Kocharyan, R. Ghazaryan, correspondent member of NAS A. Hakhumyan, Professors P. Poghosyan, L. Movsisyan, Yu. Avetisyan headed the Chair in different periods.
The Chair prepares competitive and high-level specialists in the field of radiophysics, scientific, technical, and engineering in the domestic and international labor market, as well as conducts scientific research aimed at solving the current issues faced in the field of radiophysics.
The main directions of scientific research carried out at the chair are:
• Generation, conversion, radiation, and reception of electromagnetic waves in the terahertz and optical ranges, propagation, absorption, and localization of these waves in different environments and structures,
• studying the characteristics of surface plasmon-polaritons in the visible and terahertz frequency ranges,
• studying the interaction of electromagnetic radiation with biological objects,
• registration and processing of biosignals.
The joint laboratory of Yerevan State University, "Integra Technologies International" LLC (USA), and the Institute of Radiophysics and Electronics (RFEI) of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia (Head: Professor Yu. Avetisyan) operates adjacent to the chair.
The Chair implements the "Radiophysics" Undergraduate and Master's educational programs.
