Applied Linguistics

The 1.5-year (90 credits) Master's degree program in Applied Linguistics (English), an interdisciplinary linguistic field, addresses a range of issues related to the theory and practice of contemporary linguistics, enabling graduates to work in various applied fields.

The duration of the revised version of the program (three semesters) is justified by the fact that the studied disciplines and the training of theoretical and practical skills can be carried out in one and a half years instead of two, and in three semesters instead of four, because mostly the Bachelor's program graduates already possess a variety of language (theoretical and practical) and professional skills, many already work in various applied fields, they easily master even the most difficult knowledge, can work on their Master's theses from the very first semester, thus the need to allocate additional time decreases. In addition, during the previous years of the implementation of the program, surveys conducted among students and graduates of the given department prove that the students did not hesitate to express their opinion about the more or less effectiveness of the taught courses and the desirability of introducing new applied and theoretical professional subjects. Discussions undertaken as a result of project monitoring have led to the conviction that to increase the effectiveness of training, it is necessary to review the taught modules, bringing their final results as close as possible to the current demands of the labor market.

Taking into account all the advantages and shortcomings of the current program, the chair has come to the conviction that there is a need to reform the program and equip it with such important issues and questions in the field of modern linguistics that will bring it as close as possible to modern international perceptions of linguistics and teaching standards. The implemented reforms will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the educational and future working processes of students and will provide wider opportunities for professional activity. The proposed one-and-a-half-year duration of the program will also make it possible to make the program more up-to-date by increasing the saturation of the courses and bringing it even closer to the requirements of the modern world.
