Highlighting the role of the mining industry, the rational and complex use of the subsoil in the long-term development of Armenia's economy, as well as the transfer of the extensive experience and the contribution of the potential of Yerevan State University in the field of geological studies conducted in this direction, Yerevan State University joined the activities of the Union of Miners and Metallurgists of Armenia, becoming a member of the union.
The Union of Miners and Metallurgists of Armenia was founded in 2006 by the initiative of a group of large companies in the field. Currently, more than a dozen Armenian mining and metallurgical companies are members of the Union of Miners and Metallurgists of Armenia, including "Zangezur Copper Molybdenum Combine", "Lydian Armenia", "Kapan Mining and Processing", "ASCE Group", "Teghout" and "Akhtala Mining and Processing", as well as the Mining and Metallurgy Institute and the National Polytechnic University of Armenia.
Cooperation with the Union is particularly important from the point of view of maintaining close contact with the YSU Faculty of Geography and Geology and industrial enterprises of the field and effective organization of active cooperation with partner organizations.
It should be noted that at the end of 2023, YSU Rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan hosted Vardan Dzhanyan, the First Deputy General Director of "Zangezur Copper Molybdenum Combine" company, the President of the Union of Miners and Metallurgists of Armenia, and representatives of the combine and union management. During the meeting, among the agreements regarding the implementation of a number of cooperation programs, a decision was made to promote bilateral cooperation and joint activities aimed at the development of the field․
