Chair of History, Theory, and Logic of Philosophy
The Chair of History, Theory, and Logic of Philosophy was established in 2019 as a result of the merger of the Chairs of Theoretical Philosophy, Logic and Rhetoric and the History of Philosophy. Since 2019, the head of the Chair has been Ph.D., Professor Seyran Zakaryan.
The previous Chairs were headed by Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia G. Brutyan, Ph.D., Professor Hr. Shakaryan, correspondent member of RA NAS A. Manasyan, Ph.D., Professors H. Gabrielyan, G. Khrlopyan, G. Mkhitaryan, and H. Mirzoyan.
At the Undergraduate and Graduate levels of the Philosophy Department, the Chair professors teach general and specialized courses referring to the history of philosophy, cultural studies, debate theory, logic, ontology, methodology, epistemology, creativity theory and mathematics, and philosophical issues. At the same time, the Chair trains specialists in world and Armenian philosophy, history of culture, logic, and rhetoric. Over the years, many graduate and Ph.D. students have defended their Ph.D. theses and some even doctoral dissertations.
In 2005, the Chair professors S. Khachatryan and S. Petrosyan participated in the process of development and revision of the state educational standards of "Social Studies" in the public school and authored a number of manuals, guides, and workbooks for social studies teachers. In cooperation with other social scientists, they co-authored the textbooks "Social Studies, Grade 8", "Social Studies, Grade 10" and "Social Studies, Grade 12".
In the last decade, the professors of the Chair have published a number of monographs within the framework of topics financed from the state budget. In particular, S. Zakaryan published "The Question of the Armenian Revival" (methodological analysis), "Grigor Tatevatsi on Mercy on Virtue", H. Mirzoyan "The word-making art of Grigor Narekatsi" (2006), "Narekatsi's research, A. Sargsyan, "Philosophical and ideological in the theoretical heritage of Garegin Nzhdeh", A. Manasyan "Mountainous Karabakh. How did it happen? Hovhannisyan "Theory and art of debate: philosophic doubt", A. Vardumyan "Rhetoric for many and each" and other works.
The lecturers of the Chair take part in the activities of conferences and scientific seminars held in the republic and outside its borders and cooperate with a number of foreign universities.
