Chair of Theory and History of Sociology
The Chair of Theory and History of Sociology was founded in 2011. The establishment of the Chair was an institutional opportunity for the implementation of fundamental sociological research, an incentive for the implementation of theoretical and historical sociological studies, with applied sociological research.
The main directions of scientific and educational activities of the Chair of Sociology Theory and History are sociological theories, history of sociology (especially Armenian sociology), middle-level theories, identity issues, and spatial (urban, rural) issues.
The Chair’s employees are involved in scientific grant programs and have authored many research papers and educational manuals. YSU publications "Anthology of Armenian Sociological Thought", "History of Armenian Sociology (end of XIX century - beginning of XX century)" and "Gemanian Sociological Thought" are worth mentioning.
The Chair cooperates internationally with various scientific and educational institutions, including Humboldt (Germany), Potsdam (Germany), Freiburg (Switzerland), Oxford (United Kingdom), Higher School of Economics (Russia), Mogilev State University (Belarus), St. Petersburg Financial and Economic Academy (RF), Tbilisi I. Javakhishvili State University (Georgia), Vologda Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, etc.
Ph.D., Associate Professor Harutyun Vermishyan is the head of the Chair of Theory and History of Sociology.
The Chair implements the "Sociology" Undergraduate and "Human Resource Management (part-time)" Master's degree educational programs.
