Chair of Social Work and Social Technologies
The Chair was founded in 2004 within the Faculty of Sociology. Artak Khachatryan, Ph.D., has been the head of the Chair since 2006.
From 2010 to 2013, the Chair participated as a member of the consortium with local and foreign universities in the "Tempus 4" program, as a result of which a new Master's degree educational program "Social Policy and Administration" was introduced at YSU. From 2019 to 2021, the Chair had the opportunity to develop that program by participating in the "Erasmus+" program.
The Chair of Social Work and Social Technologies actively participates in the reforms of the RA social protection system. Many professors of the Chair, as trainers, participate in the training of system employees, contributing to the spread and development of the professional culture of social work. With their active participation, the network of community social workers is developing today. Cooperating with various state and public bodies, the Chair regularly organizes conferences and round tables, during which urgent issues aimed at the development of the field, are discussed. As a rule, such events are adapted to Social Worker's Day (republican and international holidays).
The professors of the Chair also support the development of the social protection system in Artsakh, introducing the element of social work into it. For this, they organize short courses on social work, train students, and provide professional counseling.
The Chair implements the "Social Work" Undergraduate and Master's degree educational programs.
The Chair of Social Work and Social Technology cooperates closely with the School of Social Work of Connecticut University (USA). Every year, a course on "Comparative Social Policy" is organized for Master's degree students of both countries, at the end of which a mutual visit of students is organized to be acquainted with the state of development of social work in the partner country.
In recent years, the Chair cooperates with the Hradec Králové University in the Czech Republic within the framework of the "Erasmus+" program. Within the framework of cooperation, the professors of the Chair participate in the traditional scientific conference "Hradec Days" and make mutual visits to give lectures. During the summer semester, the students of the educational programs implemented by the Chair also have the opportunity to study at the partner university.
