General information
Eastern Armenian scientific grammar has¹ a rich history. Dozens of fundamental studies have been done: St. Palasanyan, "A General Theory of the Armenian New Written Oriental Language" (Tbilissi, 1870); “Grammar of the Armenian as a Mother Tongue” (Tbilissi, 1874); H. Acharyan, “Complete Grammar of the Armenian Language in Comparison with 562 Languages” (Yerevan, 1955-1971); M. Abeghyan, “Theory of the Armenian Language” (Yerevan, 1965); G. Sevak, “Course of Modern Armenian Language” (Yerevan, 1955); H. Barseghyan, “Theory of Modern Armenian Verb and Conjugation” (Yerevan, 1953); “The Teaching of Parts of Speech in the Armenian Language” (Yerevan, 1980); M. Asatryan “Issues of Modern Armenian Morphology” (3 vols., Yerevan, 1970-77), “Modern Armenian Language. Morphology” (Yerevan, 1983); A. Margaryan “Armenian Category of Case” (Yerevan, 2000); “Grammar of the Armenian Language․ Morphology” (Yerevan, 2004) etc. These are the most famous works, and they are only an insignificant part of the huge heritage related to Armenian grammar, particularly to morthography. In contrast to this rich variety of theoretical works, the practical method of morphology, especially lexicography, has not worked in the field. We have not had a grammar dictionary of Armenian so far.
