General information
Today, the ancient capital of Armenia, Yerevan, is more than 2800 years old, and this whole history is connected with the life of the Armenian people. The history of Yerevan in medieval and modern times is especially full of interesting events, when Yerevan, gradually becoming the capital of the Ararat country, the central part of Armenia, begins to acquire the features of a large city. After the fall of the Bagratids kingdom, Yerevan from time to time was attacked by foreign invaders. Starting from the 15th century, Turkmen nomadic tribes settled in the Ararat country, on the basis of which Azerbaijani authors now are trying to prove that this region was inhabited by Azerbaijanis, and Yerevan was an Azerbaijani city. The main target of Azerbaijani falsifiers of the history of Yerevan is the period when the city was conquered by the Safavid Iran and later became the center of the eponymous khanate. However, historical sources, as well as information of various foreign travelers, clearly show that Yerevan has always been an Armenian city with an Armenian population, despite the fact that in 1604 a significant part of the city's Armenians were resettled by Persian troops into the depths of Iran.
