A NEW RESEARCH PROJECT IMPLEMENTED IN ENVIRONMENTAL LAW RESEARCH CENTER
At the Environmental Law Resource Center of YSU the presentation of the research project “The ecosystem services of forests and specially protected natural areas and efficiency of local self-governance: Inter-disciplinary perspectives” took place today.
Olympia Geghamyan – the head of Environmental Law Research Center mentioned that ELRC conducts different types of activities and its main objective is assessment the environmental legislation of Armenia, identifying gaps and shortcomings, and communicating these to the competent authorities.
For this purposes the Center cooperates with legislative, executive and judicial powers, local self-governance bodies as well as foreign universities, international organizations and NGOs specialized in environmental protection.
In the interview Olympia Geghamyan mentioned that the research project “The ecosystem services of forests and specially protected natural areas and efficiency of local self-governance: Inter-disciplinary perspectives” will be conducted within 2 years – from September 2020 to 2022. For the inter-disciplinary project, five communities have been chosen to prepare case studies on.
The main objective of the research is assessing the efficiency of local self-governance in Armenia in the context of management of forests and specially protected natural areas.
