Chair of Organic Chemistry
The Chair of Organic Chemistry was founded by Professor S. Ghambaryan in 1920. The latter was the first head of the Chair. In different years, Professor A. Mnjoyan, academicians V. Isaguliants, M. Danghyan, A. Avetisyan, and Professor V. Harutyunyan headed the Chair.
In the Chair of Organic Chemistry, two scientific directions were established, which are the starting point for the creation of OCI and FOC. They are:
Synthesis of bioactive heterocyclic compounds,
Chemistry of monomers and polymers.
The Chair has also developed methods of industrial importance, such as:
Method for obtaining acetylene (Professor Ghambaryan), which later became the basis for the production of polychloroprene rubber in Armenia,
Method for receiving Quattero drugs (Gyulbudaghyan, Mnjoyan), Gangleron,
Method for obtaining polychloroprene epoxy (A. Durgaryan) and others.
At the Chair of Organic Chemistry, work is currently being carried out on the synthesis of nitrogen-, oxygen- and sulfur-containing compounds: saturated and unsaturated lactones, iminolactones, quinolines, triazoles, pyrazoles, thiadiazoles, thiazolidines, phenylthiazolidines, dioxothiazolidines, oxadiazoles.
The Laboratory of High Molecular Chemistry operates in the Chair, where work is carried out in the direction of studying the chemistry of chlorooxiranes, electroactive, complexing, bioactive high molecular and low molecular compounds, as well as the synthesis and properties of oligomers.
The faculty of the Chair are high-ranking scientists; the results of their work are published in the form of articles in periodicals with a high impact factor.
The Chair organizes educational activities both for the educational programs of the Faculty ("Chemistry" Undergraduate, "Food Safety" Undergraduate and Master's, "Materials Science" Master's), as well as "Biology", "Biochemistry and Biotechnology", "Biophysics and bioinformatics" of YSU Institute of Pharmacy and Faculty of Biology, by educational programs.
