Opportunity for YSU students to continue their education at San Jose State University
The best YSU students studying in "Data Science in Business" Master's program of the Faculty of Economics and Management and in "Materials Science" Master's program of the Faculty of Chemistry were awarded scholarships.
These Master's programs are implemented jointly with San Jose State University, "Enterprise Incubator" Foundation and ISTC, with the support of "PMI Science". The best students of the educational program, having studied for one year at YSU and continuing their education for another year at San Jose State University (USA), have the opportunity to receive a double diploma and to do internships in Silicon Valley organizations.
Since 2017, 20 high-achieving students studying in the "Data Science in Business" educational program of the Faculty of Economics and Management and 7 students studying in the "Materials Science" educational program of the Faculty of Chemistry received scholarships this year.
Karlen Khachatryan, Dean of the YSU Faculty of Economics and Management, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor, congratulating the scholarship winners, emphasized the importance and mutual benefit of the connection between business and education. "This type of cooperation is of exceptional importance, since business companies, cooperating with educational institutions, contribute to establishing highly demanded and qualified specialists."
Armen Galstyan, Deputy Dean of YSU Faculty of Chemistry and Candidate of Chemical Sciences referring to the importance of the program, noted, "Thanks to the joint work carried out for about two years, the Master's program "Materials Science" was launched at the university in the 2022-2023 academic year. The profession has a great role in chemical, military-industrial, computer technology, biomedical materials, energy, environmental protection and other fields."
Bagrat Yengibaryan, Director of the "Enterprise Incubator" Foundation, speaking about the prospects of the master's programs, said that by improving the educational programs year by year, they try to contribute to the development of the given branches of science in our country.
Ophelia Sargsyan, Manager of External Innovation & Alliances of "PMI Science" Research Center in Armenia, emphasizing the importance of the master's programs, said, "This educational model provides the companies operating in the field of industry with the opportunity to have their educational contribution in the academic field, establishing such specialists with whom they aim to make long-term cooperation in the future."
Davit Sahakyan, Deputy Minister of High-Tech Industry of the RA, wishing the scholarship winners new achievements, expressed hope that in the near future similar master's programs will be implemented in other fields of science.
Ruben Gevorgyan, Head of the "Data Science in Business" Master's program, said that the curriculum is aligned with the educational standards of San Jose University. "The selection of scholarship winners is competitive. Students studying in the first year of the master's program take an exam to apply for the scholarship, and the selection of second-year students is made based on the grade point average (GPA).
Representatives of the management staff of YSU Faculties of Economics and Management, Chemistry, professors, and students were present at the event, which took place in the National Gallery of Armenia.
At the end of the event, 3 postgraduate students of YSU were also awarded scholarships for conducting research and scientific projects within the framework of the "PhD Support Program-2023" implemented by the "Enterprise Incubator" Foundation and with the support of "PMI Science".
