The Faculty of Law is one of the oldest faculties of Yerevan State University with rich scientific and educational traditions. It has a history of about 90 years and was founded in the 1933-1934 academic year.
Today, the Faculty of Law of YSU is considered the leader and the main forge of legal personnel in the republic. Over the past 90 years, the faculty has had more than 25,000 graduates who work and are working in the legislative and executive authorities, local self-government agencies, law enforcement, and judicial bodies, international organizations, law and consulting firms, banking system, and private companies, scientific research centers, in public organizations and elsewhere where there is a position of a lawyer.
The faculty has a three-level education system: Undergraduate (4 years), Master's (1 or 1.5 years depending on the program), and Postgraduate (3 years).
Since 2007, part-time education has been implemented in the faculty (for a period of 5 years).
Admission to the faculty is also held for those with higher education. To get the second specialty, applicants to the faculty pass the subject distinctions and continue their studies from the 2nd year (for a period of 4 years).
The range of courses offered at the Faculty of Law of YSU is unrivaled in the region in terms of depth, variety, and relevance of courses. The subject lists are updated every year to make them more in line with the demands of the modern labor market and more attractive from the point of view of those demands.
While studying for the Bachelor's degree, students acquire the necessary fundamental knowledge about all branches of law, and the studies for the Master's degree are designed to acquire fundamental knowledge and skills in a specific field.
Leading specialists in the field teach at the YSU Faculty of Law: academicians of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia, professors, doctors, and candidates of science. The faculty has actively participated and continues to participate in the implementation of constitutional and judicial reforms in the republic.
To organize the training of lawyers more effectively, a criminology study cabinet, a study courtroom, as well as a legal clinic (student legal advisory service) were created in the faculty. In the clinic, students have the opportunity to provide direct legal assistance to applicants in civil, criminal, and commercial cases, as well as to refugees, displaced persons, and children under the guidance of a lecturer.
The faculty also has many scientific centers: the scientific and educational center of environmental law, as well as the career center created with the active support of the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative, which, following the experience of American law schools, ensures constant student-graduate-employer contact and assists graduates in finding suitable jobs.
The faculty has a computer center and an electronic library.
A small printing house is also an integral part of the material and technical base, where professional training manuals, lecture texts, and other educational materials are published. The faculty also published the international scientific journal "Issues of Jurisprudence" (trimonthly), which was renamed "Banber of Yerevan University. As an educational institution and a scientific center, the YSU Faculty of Law effectively cooperates with both local and foreign research institutions, among which are the Institute of Philosophy, Sociology and Law of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia, the Center for Constitutional Law, and legal leading schools of Russia, Western Europe, and the USA, which are also major scientific centers, including Moscow State University, Moscow State Institute of International Relations, Saint Petersburg State University, Montpellier, Berlin, Stockholm, Geneva, Sorbonne, Essex, Barcelona, Berkeley Universities, as well as prestigious international organizations: the United Nations office in Armenia, the US Agency for International Development, the American Lawyers Association, the Yerevan office of the "Konrad Adenauer" Foundation, the Yerevan office of the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation "IRZ", the Yerevan delegation of the Red Cross, etc.
The Faculty of Law is notable for its active student life. With the efforts of the faculty's Student Council and the Student Scientific Society, many scientific (conferences, thematic discussions, meetings with the heads of various state agencies, participation in professional competitions, etc.) and cultural events are organized.
