Chair of Civil Law
The Chair of Civil Law of the YSU Faculty of Law was established in the 1936-1937 academic year. The first head of the Chair was an outstanding scientist, YSU professor H. A. Galikyan.
Outstanding lawyers with great scientific merit and recognized in the republic made an invaluable contribution to the establishment of the Chair, such as A. Yesayan, R. Petrosyan, and T. Barseghyan. For his significant contribution during his long tenure as the head of the Civil Law Chair, the YSU Academic Council elected Professor T. K. Barseghyan as the honorary head of the Chair. In 2019 Dr., Professor A. M. Haykyants was elected as the head of the Chair.
Throughout its activity, the Chair has always been at the forefront of civil rights advocacy and dissemination.
All the main courses taught by the members of the Chair are provided with Armenian textbooks and educational materials for practical classes. "Civil Law Problem Book (with solutions)" educational manual, "Family Law of the Republic of Armenia" practical training manual, "Civil Law of the Republic of Armenia" textbook (in three parts), "Family Law of the Republic of Armenia", "Operational Law", "Private International Law" were published. law" textbooks, the "Legal Regulation of International Trade" manual, the "Roman Private Law" educational manual, the "Shareholder Law" educational manual, the "Civil Law Practical Training Manual" (in two parts), as well as many other educational materials (including, online).
The main directions of the Chair’s research activities are the study of the main institutions of civil law: property law, liability, obligation law, family law, intellectual property law, including artificial intelligence, as well as international private law, European private law, corporate law, and business relations issues.
Doctors of legal sciences, Professors, Candidates of sciences, and Assistant Professors work in the Chair. The teaching staff of the Chair includes recognized and leading specialists of the republic, who regularly undergo training in national, foreign, and international institutions, as well as are involved in various programs and initiatives of both scientific and practical orientation. The Chair has a great contribution to the development and improvement of RA civil legislation, as the lecturers of the Chair have shown their participation in the scientific interpretation of the norms of the RA Constitution, and are actively involved in the development and discussion of draft legal acts, as well as in the preparation of professional opinions on legal questions received from law enforcement practice institutions.
The Chair implements the following educational programs: "Judiciary Law and Advocacy", "Business Law and International Arbitration" and "Media and Information Law".
